Groups to encourage fellowship, discipleship and study...

Lifegroups are small groups of believers within the church that meet to deepen each others relationships with Christ and the body. Meetings typically occur once a week and are each very different. We encourage every attender at Lifepoint to get involved with a Lifegroup!

The Point of It All - Glenn Myers

There is the old saying “When in Rome.”

The idea of course is that if you are a particular area or with a group of people you act like they do.

If you are with a sophisticated people you act sophisticated.

If you are Red Necks you act like a Red Neck.

If you are among Pagans then act like one.

Whatever you do don’t stand out.

From the world’s way of thinking that is how you succeed.

The truth be known those who are truly successful are the ones who tended to stand out from the crowd.
If there is anything we’ve learned about the Apostle Paul from our study through the Book of Acts it is that standing out is exactly what made the Paul center of the Christian movement.

Paul boldly stood for Jesus and the message of the good news of His forgiveness and salvation.

In doing so he stood out in the ancient world.

It made him a target for sure, but it also gave him an audience to share the gospel with Kings as well as barbarians, Jews as well as Gentiles.

Paul is proof that God will use believers who choose to stand out for Him.
This week in Life Groups we will close out our year long look at the book of Acts.

In chapter 28 we see Paul complete the last leg of the Lord’s great commission to the Apostles, taking the Gospel to the ends of the earth.
“But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8

Getting to Know One Another:

Can you think of an example in your life when getting to the goal was a struggle but totally worth it once you got there?
What is the most difficult thing the Lord has called you to do?
What are some things you can do to make you stand out more boldly for the Lord in your life?

Getting to Know the Word:

When Paul arrived in Rome he was, not only left in chains but was also chained to his guard.

How did Paul use this to advance the Gospel?  (see Philippians 1:12-14)

In Acts 28:20 Paul says, “…for the hope of Israel I am bound with this chain.”

What is Paul saying is the reason he was in chains?
What is the hope of Israel?
When Paul was given the opportunity to speak to the Roman Jewish leadership, Acts 28:23 says that he was, “persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets.”

What was the point of Paul starting from the beginning with them?
Read 2 Corinthians 2:15-16.  Explain what this means with regards to our sharing the good news of Jesus?

Getting to Know God:

After Paul, “persuaded them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening”

It says, “And some were persuaded by the things which were spoken, and some disbelieved.”  (Acts 28:23-24).

What made the difference?

Why do some respond to the Gospel and others do not?

Read Acts 28:25-27.

How does this quote from the book of Isaiah still ring true in the world’s response to Jesus today?

The book closes with this, “Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him, 31 preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him.” (Acts 28:30-31)

Explain the many ways God supported Paul throughout his ministry.

What did I learn this week that I can put to use in my own life?
